Paper Competition

The awards will be announced at the end of the virtual conference. Top paper authors who do not present their papers at the conference will be disqualified from receiving awards.

Please note that the award is considered taxable income to the recipient and may require the university to report the value of the prize to federal and state revenue agencies.

The papers can be on any topic related to the intersection of freedom of journalism and digital media, including social media and artificial intelligence. Papers from international and comparative perspectives are welcome. Students can be enrolled in any university in any discipline, including law schools.

Undergraduate papers should be 3,500 words long or more, but no more than 6,000 words, including references. Graduate papers should be at least 4,500 words long but no more than 7,500, including references. Papers must be scrubbed of all information that would identify the author(s), including metadata. Papers must be original and never presented at any other conference or published in any scholarly journal. No AI-generated papers will be accepted.
